UP elections is considered as a litmus test for the Narendra Modi government, and BJP is once again in the running for its most critical political test post demonetization. Akhilesh Yadav, the current Chief Minister of UP, has been expelled from Samajwadi Party for a definite period of six years. This action was taken by his father and party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
A show cause notice was issued by Mulayam Singh earlier asking his son and Chief Minister of UP, why he should not be subject to disciplinary action for releasing a parallel list of candidates for the upcoming and most watched UP elections.
Akhilesh has been in the news for the right reasons, hence it is worth looking at why Akhilesh Yadav’s stint of 4+ years as UP’s CM has earned him the tag as the most influential Chief Minister of UP:
1. ‘Kanya Vidyadhan Yojana’ Scheme
Under this scheme, every class 12 pass out girls is entitled to receive a one-time grant of INR 30,000 for higher studies. A game changer strategy to boost girl child education.
2. ‘Gomti River Front Development’
Gomti river front development project is not just noise, there is some serious work in progress.
3. ‘Green UP’ Initiative
“Green UP” initiative earned itself a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records. Under the state government’s “Green UP” over 10 lakh saplings were planted within a span of eight hours at 10 locations.
This new record surpassed the earlier record for plantation of maximum number of saplings, which stood at 8.5 lakh in a single day.
4. ‘Free Laptop Drive’
The Free laptop distribution scheme headed by Akhilesh Yadav distributed 1.5 million laptops through the plan.
5. ‘The Agra Lucknow Expressway’
The 305 km expressway was completed in a record 23 months. It is expected to reduce travel time between Delhi and the Uttar Pradesh capital from 9hrs to little over 5hrs.
As part of a contingent plan when military air fields are not available, the Defence Ministry plans to use this for fighter jet landings too.
Apart from these the launch of “one state-one number“, 1090 helpline handles cases of harassment against women in Uttar Pradesh. It is a 24×7 helpline which has been functional since 2012. Till date, it has recorded a total of 484,903 complaints out of which, 380,679 have been solved. Innumerous such projects have been undertaken to resolve long pending issues with the state.
Only time will tell when the broken cycle will be UP again.
