Like every epoch defining movie gets a remake, the same honour has been given to a veteran in the cellular phone world and hurray for that! Nokia 3310 has upped its game and is back with a bang, and the fact that it brings with it the good old Snake game has us reaching out for a tissue to wipe our tear.
If one were to think this wave of blast from the past could resurrect a few more things, these are the things we would definitely want to see again from the late 90’s/early 2000s:
1. Uncle Chips Papri chaat –
It made a brief comeback 3 years ago but I guess the old packet design had changed from a metallic blue/silver/black to a pink (why??) one. Call me crazy but I think I would like the flavour more if it came back in its old look, with the extra ingredient of nostalgia…
2. Cartoon shows (Disney and Cartoon Network)
Gosh where do I start with this one. In no particular order, here it goes – DuckTales, TailSpin, Johny Quest, Tom and Jerry (Chuck Jones era is a personal favourite), Dexter’s Lab, Josie and the Pussycats, etc.
3. Television shows –
Doordarshan seems to have partially heard our prayers, and after Circus, plan to bring back to the small-screen a couple of more old timers. Lets hope these names also make the list – Dekh Bhai Dekh, Hip Hip Hurray, Family No.1, Just Mohabbat, SARABHAI vs SARABHAI for God’s sake!
4. Rahul Dravid in cricket
Because he justifies cricket as a “gentleman’s game”
5. Zinedine Zidane in football
Because the headbutt.
6. Absence of KRK from our cognizance.
I beg the universe. Please.
7. Pepsi Blue
Syrupy Berry flavoured kerosene coloured soda. Sold in India during the 2003 Cricket World Cup as a gesture of support to the Indian cricket team. Attraction to it was like a high school crush – strong, and short-lived, but committed to memory for a long long time.
8. Biddu, Bally Sagoo and Instant Karma –
Boom Boom, and Dil kya kare. Need I say more?
9. Motorola Razr
Before the iPhone, there was the Motorazr. The ultimate badge of coolness.
10. These oval orange candies.
“Oval orange candies” are the exact words I typed into the Google search bar and this is the image that popped up. Can’t see these around that much anymore.
